The Beat was the British Beat are a band founded in Birmingham, England, in 1978.Their music references influences form ska, pop, soul, reggae and punk rock.
Consisting of Dave Wakeling (vocals, guitar), Ranking Roger (vocals), Andy Cox (guitar), David Steele (bass), Everett Morton (drums), and Saxa a.k.a. Lionel Augustus Martin (saxophone), released three studio albums in the early 1980s.
Known in the USA as the English Beat, due to another US band having the same name.
They also had a string of singles, including "Mirror in the Bathroom", "Tears of a Clown", "Can't Get Used to Losing You".
My personal favourite track was not a single as far as i remember, just a heart felt plea 'Stand Down Margaret'.
